A private stay in Potrero

Your own peaceful oasis, walking distance to town, with great spots up and down the coast.

Why the name Casa Jícaro

Around here, jícaro trees mostly grow scattered across open farmland. You don't often find one standing in someone's front yard. Ours does. It's the first thing you'll notice when you arrive, and the reason the house is named after it.

The jícaro has been part of Costa Rican life since long before hotels or highways. Its hard-shelled fruit was hollowed into bowls, cups, spoons, and rattles by hand. In Guanacaste, that same gourd became the resonating chamber of the quijongo, a traditional single-string instrument still played today. Carvers etched geometric patterns and animals into the shells, decoration that doubled as storytelling.

We named the house for the tree because that's what we want a stay here to feel like: something specific to this place, made by hand, worth being proud of.

The Stay

Two private units on the same property, each with its own pool and full kitchen. Your own space, not a room down the hall from someone else's.

The larger of the two units, ideal for a family of four or two couples traveling together. It sits closest to the jícaro tree itself.
